Nuseirat Refugee Camp Among Those Affected
The Israeli military has begun evacuating residents from several refugee camps in the southern Gaza Strip, including the Nuseirat refugee camp. The evacuations are part of a larger operation to clear a six-mile-wide buffer zone along the border with Egypt in order to prevent Hamas from smuggling weapons and carrying out attacks against Israel.
The Nuseirat refugee camp is one of the most densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip, with approximately 80,000 residents living in an area of less than one square mile. The camp is home to a mix of refugees who were displaced from their homes during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war and their descendants.
The Israeli military has ordered all residents of the Nuseirat refugee camp to leave their homes by 8:00 PM local time. Those who do not leave by the deadline will be forcibly evacuated.
